Events

Foundational belief: if every single interesting New Yorker were connected to each other, the compounding results would create an unstoppable force for good.

If you made it here, you’re invited to — or even have already been to — one of my events and gatherings building towards exactly that. Through curated guest lists, I aim to unite human beings who embody a rare combination of traits:

  • Intelligent
  • Gently Ambitious (“values-driven” vs. “ego-driven”)
  • Open (regardless of introversion/extroversion, a general draw towards connecting with strangers)
  • FUN (there enough places in NYC with Very Serious Discussions and not nearly enough that are playful and inventive)

This community is multidisciplinary — doctors, scientists, founders, artists, musicians, and students all have something to share with each other — but it is also social, meaning that leisure and play is the focus, not professional networking and promotion (we are more than our careers!)

I aim to host every 2-3 weeks. I started this in late Summer 2024, so the community is in its nascence, constantly evolving… and you have an opportunity to shape it!

Events hosted so far:

  • Themed rooftop parties
  • A men’s authentic relating/circling group – relaxed small-group weekday evening sessions with an air of levity and exploration
  • Street Cleaning League – I firmly believe that picking up trash is the greatest way to socialize. All supplies will be provided, and these will be gamified and fun, with music playing and statistics kept on bags of trash collected and “kudos” received from neighbors. We’ll all commune after the party to grab food.

The following are planned for the winter:

  • Personal Organizational Systems Presentations – from to-do lists to notes to calendars, how do you organize your life? Three people will present wildly different systems in short presentations with Q&A, then we’ll break down into freeform mingling.
  • Recent Rabbithole Presentations – 3-5 minute presentations on something you’ve gone down a rabbithole on lately!

And other ideas for the further future:

  • Blind food taste testing and rating (bagels, pizza, etc.)
  • Personal Organizational Systems Presentations (Selected attendees show us a 10 minute summary of which system/tools they use to organize their life: to-do lists, tracking, notetaking, agendas, etc.)
  • Superlatives Bike Tour (a route of establishments with signage that claim to have “the best [X]” in New York City where we see if it’s true)
  • Neighborhoods You’ve Never Been To (a small group of intrepid adventurers explore Gravesend, Bayside, Mott Haven, etc. via bike or on foot)
  • Experimental Social Games Night – we’ll run through a series of fun structured games that allow us how to examine how we show up in social settings. See examples at https://meaning.supplies

How to join

If you’re reading this, you’re in my rolodex and will receive Partiful invitations in advance of every event. If you ever want to unsubscribe, just opt out of invitations from me on Partiful.

Can’t join for an event?

No problem at all. These are recurring events, and I never want anyone to feel obligated to attend at a certain frequency. If you can make every one, great! If you come once every six months, also great!

Want to get other people involved?

If you think they fit the values above, bring them to the next event!

As an organizer, I value:

  • Complete guest agency: treat every space you’re in like it’s your own, even if it’s my apartment. I say this with complete seriousness: I do not believe in personal possessions. Having to ask an organizer to do things just creates more hurdles.
  • Sub-facilitating: Want to merge groups? Do it. Want to play a game? Do it. Want to do authentic relating? Do it. You are strongly encouraged to sub-facilitate activities you want to see within each event. (Oh, and if you want to host an event, also do it! Happy to cohost with you.)
  • Maximal interaction with other people: you’ll never see long lectures, presentations, or other times where one voice dominates.
  • Debriefs: for experiential events, there will always be space for you to debrief an experience with others.
